I'm just wondering if anyone has done this or even if it can be done. install an auto down window switch for passenger front door in the frt. pass. door itself or/and in driver door panel. is there a knowledgeable tech who is familiar about these switches? are the switches interchangeable? An installer from the local autoglass shop told me that in the auto down mode, that what stops the window motor is the window when it bottoms out and the motor stops because of the heat generated when the motor stops turning. I don't know if its that way, I just want to install the auto switches if they'll work. I noticed the Lincolns have auto up and down, would these switches work? Just looking for something different to do.
I don't believe you can do it with your regular stock driver's side switch. Looking at this diagram(2005), the driver's side switch with the auto function is a all in one unit with all the master controls contained in it. AutoZone.com Repair Guide Image
I believe the glass installer is correct, the switch works somewhat like a circuit breaker, detecting when the motor stalls and draws a lot of current.
