At 1000W, and a utility rate of, say, 12 cents / kWh, it's costing you about $3.00 a day for the power.

Well, check your bill for your rate per kWh, as it varies a LOT by location. Take the rate per kWh, multiply by 24, and that's how much it would cost to run non-stop for the day. Mine's about 12.2 cents / kWh.
