Why'd Ford opt for the smaller turbo outlet diameter and mangled downpipe? Emissions?
So if it was for clearance would I have to make the ATS fit? And where could I find the outlet/downpipe or the turbo housing to purchase? Do I just need the ATS outlet or the whole housing including outlet?
the mangled downpipe was for clearance issues. Dunno bout the small outlet.
I think I read something about that on the '94 - '97 PSD's. They had to take a pipe and pry the fire wall up a little bit in order to fit the non-mangled downpipe in there.
If you have a body lift you can get away without modifying the firewall. I believe Dave has a 2 in body lift on his and he didnt have to modify it any.
To fit the full down pipe you simply need to bend the pinch weld of the firewall to gain the clearence. I did mine with the tranny out so it was a breeze using a 4x4 and a floor jack. And finishing up with a little massage from the body hammer. Could easily fit 4" down pipe now.
