i just purchased a Python 991 remote starter alarm system. Just wanted everyone to know Read the warranty info. This unit has a lifetime warranty but only if installed by a authorized installer. Not You. I'm lucky i didn't buy this on line. all tho it would have been $170 cheaper the warranty would have been void. I am having it installed by the dealer i bought it from for $100 so it was $400. vs $229 on line with no warranty and the head ack of installing it. The python's are made by Directed. Directed Electronics - Security & Remote Start | Home Theater | Satellite Radio | Car Audio & Video they also make Viper and Auto Start and many many more. So they probably have the same warranty. You also need a special dealer only tool to program it. this unit is a re badged Viper 5901. This is a great kit tho and I'm glad i bought it from a dealer. Python – Security with Remote Start - Python 991
I got the viper 5901 installed a few weeks ago but the remote start seems hit or miss if it wants to work. Not sure what is causing this. I know for it to even work at all they had to install a tac generator and up the cranking time from 1.5 to 4 seconds. I found that I had a bad battery so i replaced them both and a corroided cable but still no change. At least electircal system is passing good now so addressed it before left in a parking lot. Other than that it seems to be a good alarm if it is the rebrand of the one you got.
By the way if you want to get the insurance discount be sure they activate the passive arming on it. I know with state farm you have to have the glass impact sensor installed and passive activated to get the discount. You have to be category 3 or above.
what year do you have? diesel or gas. did you have a atherized dealer install it? you shouldnt need a tec generator. the truck has one built in. thats what the tec runs off of.
2007 f350 PSD. Yes it was a authorized dealer and I was there when he was installing it. He tried using a direct feed but it wasnt strong enough. He had a buddy come in from a ford dealer and he brought him the generator telling him he always has to use it to get remote start to work properly.
I also have an '03 and no tach generator needed. Green/white in the harness(actually they're just loose wires with capped ends) above the park brake. Viper has run into ALOT of reliability issues in the last 2 years so it may be a brain issue and not a problem with your truck.
I have the Viper 5901 and love it it is set for a fifteen second delay for starting and i also have it set for a turbo cool down at three minutes when i shut the truck off. i got it mainly for the alarm system the remote start was a bonus i paid 375 installion was free at best buy all my warrentys are still there also
Well when I get some free time I am going to have to take mine back to have them look at it. It only seems to want to start in my driveway for some reason which is on a incline. I can pull it out in the street and it doesnt work. I have tried it at several locations and it just isnt working.
It will get the signal and wait the 15 seconds and start to crank, right as it seems like it is going to start it cuts off. It tries it the normal 3 times but never works. After the attempts it seems like the truck takes a longtime to start. But if I dont ever attempt remote start it cranks right up, even when cold.
I had taken it back a couple of weeks ago and he thought it was because my batteries were weak. I did test them and yes I had a bad cell on one so replaced both. I also had the positive cable replaced because of some corrosion. After spending close to 500 bucks it still hasn't changed anything.
I am almost to the point of slipping another tech at another alarm place 75 bucks just to take a look at it. Tired of the hassle.
I work overnights and like to have my truck start before I leave work so I can hit the road right away. This is getting frustrating.
I have a guy here in Ohio who will install a Directed (not sure what model) remote start which gives me remote keyless entry (don't have it now, just power locks) for $260 installed. Soldered connections, and 3/36 warranty on it. He does a lot of work for my dealership and is excellent. I dont know how your's is so much?!?!
I know my remote starter, Avital, works great unless it's super super cold. If it is it will not start on the first attempt but let it count itself down and it will attempt a restart about 20 seconds later. Then it fires up. Almost as if it's not cranking long enough.
