Engine exchange

Will a 302 bolt right into my 72F100 without any modifications? Also, the existing inline six has a C4 XMSN. Can I mount the C4 onto the 302 without modifications, and if not, what do I need?

You will need motor mounts and stands for the 302. As far as the transmission you will need a different bell housing I think.

302 V8 and 300 six share bell pattern.

Flex plate must be correct for your 302. See the top of the SBF forums for flywheel/imbalance info.

Shift points may need to be fiddled with.

Don't forget exhaust, cooling--you may find the hoses are on different sides. Linkages, fuel lines, little things.

I did not know they shared the same pattern. I learned something new today. Now I hope I can remember this. Lol

The 351 windsor also uses the same bell housing and exhaust manifolds as the 302.

The 300 & 302 share the same bell bolt pattern. They use different engine perches. The 302 perches from 68-79 also are shared with the 77-79 351/400M.

The 302 will need to be fitted with the proper to year 302 engine flexplate.

The accelerator cable is different in length, the 300 is several inches longer than the 302.

I believe the radiator hose setup is different also.

The C4 should work fine behind the 302.
