Hi guy's! I've been on this site for a few months now and you guy's are the most knowledgeable on these trucks! I've made a few post's here and there but have not introduced myself.
My name is Johnny i'm here in the Great state of Michigan. Back in August I purchased a 1979 F350 XLT from a friend that I will be restoring. My end idea is to have a daily driver / trail truck maybe a little bit of mud. The plan is to paint it Flat dark grey with all the chrome painted flat black including the grill and side trim. It has a 460 in it out of a Lincoln. I'm Thinking a 3 inch body lift and a 4 or 6" suspension lift. 35-38" tires. I'm going to start working on the frame I want to POR 15 it and the underside of the cab and box. I'll post some pic's as soon as I start.
I am however looking for a few items that I can't seem to find anywhere. I was hoping maybe one of you may have them. It is the piece of plastic on the tilt column where the turn signal lever comes through and the A/C vents for the center and passenger sides of the dash. The scrap yards around here really don't have these trucks anymore and I haven't seen them made aftermarket.
LMC Truck will have almost anything you need. There are 3 or 4 other similar companies out there that many say offer higher quality parts, but I've been satisfied with LMC. Also, a 6" lift will fit 37's nicely and you can avoid the body lift. Good Luck
The frame is great it was undercoated or painted so there is just a few spots that have surface rust. The inside of the bed is pretty bad but I have another bed that is in almost perfect shape. The doors are a tad rusted at the bottom seem but not beond repair. I have galvinized fender wells and galvinized front core support. The floor on the passanger side and a little by the high beem switch is all that is rusty on the cab.
Anybody know the ford part numbers on all the dash vents or the colum ring on the tilt where the turn signal comes out? I would relly like to find these items.
If you go to Dennis Carpenter Reproductions website you will find the vents you're looking for and you may find that other part as well. They have a pretty comprehensive inventory of parts.
