I did put a can in the tank, but the 3 cans I put in the vacuum line is what cleaned the carbon out of it. just followed the directions on the can 9 times and the black smoke is gone after I start up. there was a light gray/white smoke after the last treatment.

i see im alittle late to the thread. I am also in this same boat. One question i have is the knock sensor ( works by sensing for knocks and lowering timing just enough to prevent knocks), if it is dieing will it allow predetonation to continue to the point it can sense them? As my miss only happens when up at operating temp, at idle and light load, light pedal. Looking for insite before i start poking around under the hood.

the plot thickens, abs light came on this morn, speed drops to zero. truck history, new motor 1500 miles on it, new tranny 200miles on it, new speed sensor, new abs modulator. i believe the truck has about 200k on other parts. can the abs and miss be related?

just got done pokin around under the hood. 1 boot in bad condition( got blown off by sparkplug ejection, all hole have been sleaved since), wiggled all abs wiring even speed sensor. nada. took top of hammer and hit the abs brake manifold with a few firm taps with truck running... abs light goes out. also found egr controller unpluged. test drive to see improvements.
