It does sound like a bad COP. It is strange you're not getting pending codes if it is indeed a misfire. You sure they did not clear the codes before reading the pending codes?
I had a similar situation with my 03 V10. I ended up buying the 10 pack of coils off eBay for $120 shipped to my door - figured lifetime warranty, what the heck. The full coil switch fixed the problem and the truck has been running smooth as ever for the last 8000 miles with the cheapo coils...
They will do that? most online " lifetime warrantys " end as soon as they get your money.
I will just do that then.
Any sellers you can recommend?
Just look for a seller that have excellent positive feedback and also ships from the USA, not Hong Kong. I also kept my stock coils, so if I had a failure I could use a stock coil until the replacement shows up.
If you have questions about the sellers warranty procedure, just ask them before bidding/purchasing.
I have had a boot failure that felt just like a bad coil but did not generate any fault codes since, technically, there wasn't a misfire. The spark arced to the cylinder head instead of firing the spark plug. If you've never replaced the boots, you might want to try a new set first before spending money on coils.
Its not a coil, I am now having slight surging at mid RPM and Moderate to heavy throttle. Still only does it when its cold and damp.
I need to start checking vacuum lines. I will let y'all know what I find.
I had the same issue, no codes with a regular scanner, and I finally had a Ford Dealer hook it up and with the IDS/VCM and found that Cylinder 1 was intermittent misfiring.
