check engine light and rough idle

Last week I started my 95 F350 psd to go to work. I headed down the road and the cel came on and the engine ran rough for about a minute and then it cleared up. On the way home the cel was on most of the time and I had little power. Its down hill since.

I was overdue for a filter change and I cleaned the FPR screen. It ran fine for a few miles before the cel came on. Today I removed the FPR and soaked the screen in diesel clean but the problem is still there.

There is a small canister under the FPR and I read it has a filter. How do I get it off without removing the entire fuel canister?

What makes me think its a fuel problem is when I first start the engine, it runs normal for 2 or 3 seconds before the cel comes on and runs rough. Like it takes that long for fuel pressure to build up and dirt to plug the injectors.

Maybe I have an electrical problem. I'll check the connectors next. I had Autozone read the codes and there were none.

Thanx for any help you guys can give me.

Fueling problems rarely set a CEL, , you can try unplugging the ICP connector ,see if it clears up , but you most likely have a burned wire under the valve cover. You can unplug the connectors one at a time , one of them won't have much effect on how the motor runs , that is the bad one...Cheap tests ...

I'm new at this...so what is the ICP and where do I find it? I'll do the connector test to check for burnt wires under the valve cover. Do the wires come as a complete harness set for both valve covers, where do you get them and how much do they cost?

Check here, the maked with green is the ICP.

BTW most AZ scanners dont read the PSD (power stroke diesel) codes.

Check this pic to have a good idea, you have to unscrew it.

I have a burned wire under the valve cover. I unplugged to connector by the oil fill cap and the cel went out with no difference in how the engine ran. Any of the others made matters worse. Can I replace only the bad wire harness or do I have to buy a complete set? Where can I order on line?
Thanks for all your help.
