My buddy called me up said when he was going to work stopped at red light, when light turned green he had no throttle response and cel came on. Went to turn hvac off it was set to defrost, turned it off cel went out and gained the throttle back. We don't have any codes as of yet, just wanted to know if anybody has had this problem before and any suggestions.
A good place to start looking would be an intermittent IVS (Idle Validation Switch).
Try taking the throttle pedal out (three nuts) and cleaning the area around that micro-switch. Dirt and dust gets in there and makes the switch intermittent, thus no throttle if no sensing of idle.
Additionally, there is a wire under the steering column bezel that wears through its insulation and causes a short that takes out the fuse (#19, 10-amp, in the under-dash panel) for the IVS.
This is only on automatic trucks. Is it an automatic?
