There's a guy near where I live with a warn 8274 winch for sale on craigslist. He wants $600 for it, kind of sounds like a motivated seller. Says it works great, comes with the remote, and 150' of new cable.
What do you guys think? I could probably score it for $500 if he still has it. I would kind of like to get a winch. Sorry I can't get a pic loaded up. (looks to be in decent shape)
I've seen winches in all price ranges. Its kind of hard to say what one could really be worth, but the new cable is definately a plus. I have 150' or more of cable, but its too much. My winch actually has TOO MUCH cable, it jams up lol.
Anyways.. does it come with a bumper or anything? Something to mount to? Just curious.. I'd say get it if its all in good working order.
No bumper, I'm planning on making some of my own real soon.
I asked mostly because I've heard those 8274's are pretty good.
I'm not really made of cash right now, but I also don't want to let a good deal slip past me.
thats not too bad of a deal esp if it is ready to be bolted on. i paid $75 each for two of them but i had to do all new wiring. well worth it though.
do you know if the guy has the old style or the new style? newer ones have a slghtly higher unloaded retrieval speed but nothing crazy.
$500 would be my top price for a used one like that (this is without seeing it though). tell him to knock $100 off the price and he can keep the cable and then go get you some amsteel syn rope
So did you pick up the winch yet. I have one on the front of one of our trucks. These things are a beast and one of the better Warns out there. You can upgrade the motor to the new XP 6hp motor, direct swap and get more power out it for those really hard pulls. Warn still sells all the parts to these winches which makes it really nice. There are a ton of rebuilds posted on the net if you ever need to do repairs. Mine was also bought used and just had to bolt it in. But I rebuilt it just because. And I wanted to see how it all worked. A quick pointer. The manual suggests 6oz of 30 wieght oil. Most guys run closer to 10 oz because the oil has to travel up via the gears and if you saw how little 6 oz is inside, you would completely understand it is not getting the oiling it needs. Let us know how it turns out.
Hey, thanks for the info. I passed on the winch, decided to save the money for other stuff I need more. When I get my new bumper finished and on the truck, I will go shopping for a winch again and I will definately be looking for an 8274.
