I have heard alot of good things about the 8274 and I am looking for a winch for my 74 F-250 4x4. My dad had previously owned the truck which had the 8274 on it. When I bought the truck he took the winch. So, hear I am looking for a winch. I have the original bumper made by Warn for the 8274. However, the 8274 is fairly costly and I often wonder if it is strong enough for my truck as it is rated for 8000lbs. Should I buy a winch rated for more pulling power or is the 8274 the most reliable and most bullet proof winch made? One bonus of purchasing the 8274 is that it will bolt right in to my bumper with essentially no effort. What have you guys experianced with the 8274? What are the pros and cons of this winch? Should I buy this one or something else? Please give your recommendations.
i run one myself.....the newer 8274-50's (5 yrs or so) are fast as hell (73.4 or so no load retrieval) and the 8274 is a time tested bullet proof unique design.....thats why i went with one.....if things get really hairy i got a ****** block.....if i need more than that im just in trouble, lol
you cna find rebuilt 8274's for a couple hundred usually
or oold beat 8274's for dirt cheap, and rebuild it
i chose between the m12000 and the 8274, i went with the latter cause of all the reasons above
The pros...it weighs 110 pounds, the cons it weighs 110 lbs. Its really the way to go with a 4500-5000 pound rig. Your rig will be pushing it but its doable if you have some skill with tackle equipment.
