460 question

howdy, picked up a 84(seems to be a trend) f250 with a 460 and I want to add 4wd to it. The rear is 4.10 and the tranny is a c6. I was thinking of going with a 208 cus I have one in the explorer and haven't had any problems. Any pros or cons? if more cons then pros, what tcase is suggested.

what, does nobody not know? I don't want to get a 208 and have it later snap on me from too much torque but I guess its experimenting time.

Your 208 should be fine. If you are that concerned, look into a 205, it will hold up no problem, but also add weight and drag. Is it a stock 460? Also, have you looked into the swap? I have never done one, so I do not know how hard it is, but just something to think about.

You will need a new trans to bolt a transfer case to

Thanks for the replies and pardon my impatience. The engine came out of a '77 chateau and came with a c6. if a 205 will bolt to a c6, then i'll go that route. To the best of my knowledge everything is stock.

If it is a 4x4 c6, yes it will bolt up, 2wd trans is different. It can be made to work but you need to completely disassemble the trans and replace the output shaft

As was said, you will need a 4x4 tranny. Then any transfer case will bolt to it. Your only option if you stick with the 2wd c6 is a divorced transfer case, and that can be more of a pain to work out.

I would find a 4x4 truck near your year and w/460 engine and buy it for parts. That way you would get the frontend and the driveshafts, transfer case, shifter, etc. A truck with a 351m or 400 might work also.

David start a new post it will work better for you but it sounds to me like carb issues. 88-150 its more than just a few parts here and there your going to need to make your truck 4x4. Like Franklin stated your better off finding a whole parts truck or 4x4 frame.

dear senior user. I have a 85 f250 with a 460 4x4 it has a 208f. It is a great trans case. I have had trouble with the plastic clips on the shifting forks. It is a light case and easy to pull our. the only plastic in the case. I would go with the 208f It is a stock model for 85.
