i have a 1975 F250 with a 460 in it. I have developed a ticking sound that seems to come and go depending on the load on the engine and certin spots in the throttle range. I am coming up on my oil change and i am thinking of using an engine flush product to get some gunk and varnish off the lifters and engine.
I have heard good things on the site about Risoline(not sure if spelled right) and Auto-RX engine flush. I have heard to try some types of ATF works too. How long do i keep these flushing agents in my engine? I have heard leave them in for 500 miles and i have heard to let my engine idle for 15mins with the flushing agent added to my engine and then do my oil change. I just want some advice on what and what not to use and the best techniques to do this. Any other tips would be great too! Thank you all!!
Try Seafoam if you're going to use a treatment on it.
I like to use Sea Foam as well in the crank case about 50 miles before changing oil. The 1989 F700 we just got came with dirty oil so as soon as the weather permits we are going to change it.
