Hi gang just wished to ask if any one has made this swap? My son has a 92 truck 2X4, and has a AODE and got another trans that is an E4OD, if any one has info on just what all he needs from the doner truck can you please let me know? Thank you JNT
You'll need the wiring and computer. And not just for the trans, the same computer runs both the engine and trans, so you need to find a computer that will run an E4OD and whatever engine is in the truck you're trying to fix. The computer in the truck now won't know what to do with an E4OD.
The E4OD is longer so the trans crossmember will have to move. There might be holes in the frame, or you might need a different crossmember.
The driveshaft will probably have to be shortened. I don't know if the slip yoke is the same or not.
I've never done this trade and I would never consider doing it. It's A LOT of work for not much gain.

this is in my sons truck and all I need is to get it working so he can get to work, do you suggest rebuild of the original? why not much gain is it an inferior trans? JNT
It's not an inferior trans, it is just not that much better than what you have. It will be a lot of work to change transmission types, and the new one is only a bit better.
I recommend either rebuilding the one you have or replace the trans by one of the same type. It's not a simple job to change transmission types.
Very good sir Thats the type of correspondence I like, so my sons trans has reverse but only if it is cold, would band replacement be the ticket? How about rebuild diagrams are they available?
