94 e350 box truck AOD trans swap

Hi everyone. I recently bought a e350 box truck with efi 460 with e4od trans with 260k on the clock. I'm planning on doing a 460 build with carburetor. NO efi, so this means the e4od witch is electronic valve body won't work due to the fact I hate obd1.

So my question is would a AOD with bell housing adaptor be strong enough for a 10000+ truck and for towing 3k. I would keep the e4od but a stand along tcu is almost a 1000 bucks. I'd rather have a manual valve body with shift kit such as the AOD.

You should be able to get an AOD built strong enough to last until the first time you put your foot to the floor. Then you'll need a new one. If you are considering a stock AOD, then it won't last the first time you get anywhere near half way to the floor.

So what your saying is it's to light duty of a transmission and I should stick with the e4od? I don't know a lot bout the AOD. Are they even a good trans?

The AOD is a decent trans. It should be able to hold up to a 460 for maybe 1-2 seconds. It is a very light duty transmission.
