Does somebody have wiring diagrams about interior lights? The problem is that some previous owner has disabled the interior lights go off when I open the door - I want that to work again. Door ajar works so the input is given there. I need to know what controls the interior lights when door is opened, is there a fuse been taken off perhaps or is some wire been cut off???
Depending on the year. The earlier years were done near the fuse box under the steering wheel panel, and the 02 (I think) and later years under the front passenger side panel. The panel that hides the fuel off switch. Some just cut wires and others added a switch in line to turn on and off when wanted. Maybe also check the light bulbs, they might have been removed, or each wire cut near the lights themselves. It is any ones guess on what the other guy did.
Welcome to FTE!
Just in case you missed the obvious, if the panel (dash) light dimmer control is scrolled all the way down to full dim, the lights won't come on when you open the door.
There might also be a way to reprogram it either by doing the key-on-off-several-times trick (a technical term I'm sure ), or a dealer might be able to to tell you how or even do it for you.

That is not correct.
The inability to manually turn off the interior lights is one of the biggest gripes about the Excursion's interior.

Regarding the panel dimmer control, my owner's manual says, "Move the control to the full down position, past detent, to prevent the interior lights from illuminating when the doors are opened." And we know the owner's manual is always accurate.
Mine is a 2003 EB edition, could there be a difference in year models/trim levels?
I didn't test it out but I will the next time I drive and post back later.
I was wondering about how to turn off inside lights as well. I used to have a 2000 Explorer and you disabled them by sliding the dash light control all the way down until it clicked. Doesn't work on my '03 XLT X.

Well, I, or rather my owners manual, stand corrected. There is no detent on the dimmer switch and the lights come on even with it all the way dim.

Is this something Ford overlooked on the X?
Should be able to tap into black/ with blue tracer under the kick panel on passenger side. Wire in a switch and be done. Do a search for more specific, you can also tap into the lights on the running boards in the same spot.
Here is the switch local I put mine in, leaving plenty of wire when the panel comes down if necessary.
