Aerostar suspension question???

Well, 2 questions really. I have a 97 2wd extended Aerostar XLT. My rear springs are sagging when it isn't loaded. I use it for work so I often need to lug tools and materials, and I also tow a boat with it in the summer. I bought new shocks for it and would like to replace the springs as well. I am considering purchasing springs for the AWD version of this van. From what I have read on Amazon is that both springs have the same ID, the same installed height and are made from the same diameter steel. However, the spring rate for the AWD spring is higher than the spring rate for the 2wd version. I will probably also install the Air Lift 1000 kit for heavy loads.

Can anyone tell me if the AWD rear spring will fit without modification on a 2WD Aerostar? The springs I am considering are Moogs, models CC841 and CC845.

My second question, does any one know the stock ride height for the front of a 97 Aerostar, extended 2WD XLT with a 4.0 and auto trans? I am wondering if I should replace the front springs as well. I am considering Moog CC850's for the front.

Someone correct this if wrong, but I believe the extended models used the same rear springs whether 2WD or 4WD versions. Front springs are completely different. You will need to either replace your rear springs or else level the body before trying to do ride height comparisons. Obviously, a sagging rear end will elevate the front end. Rear spring replacement is fairly easy. The lower spring pan bolts are usually corroded and will snap off but do not require any special type of fastener.

On an extended, they should both be the same. For the record, I used Moogs, and they were disappointing. They rode no higher that the old worn out springs. I have to use airbags just to level it out.

I replaced my rears with Husky brand and ride height is correct but the quality of the spring is somewhat less than OEM.
