Spring lift 2wd e350

I have searched quite a bit, and other than the high dollar 2wd lift systems, there is not much for our vans. I found "supersprings" which promise an inch and a half for $300, which I dont think is unreasonable. Then I came across the moog replacement springs.
Part Number: 5167-07030012
Notes: Coil Spring -- Frt Susp; Heavy Duty Replacement; Variable Rate Springs
Features:
  • Spring size: Inside Diameter 3.983', Bar Diameter .781', Installed Height 13'
  • Load rating: 1850 lbs.
  • Pigtail ends
and i remembered that they have a universal sping catalog,
Moog Suspension Parts - Universal Coil Springs
and found these,MOOG-CC860S
spring size: inside diameter,4.003, bar diameter .828' installed height 16"
load rating 1797 lbs
pigtail ends.
Am I crazy to think I can but these springs ( $97) and install them to achieve a 2 1/2" -3" lift in the front?
A new set of shocks, 2" longer f& rear and a 2" block lift for the rear and I can run 285/75 16s.
Of cousres i would have a profesional alignment.
any holes in my theory?

I installed these: TTC 2814 on my E350. They are 7/8 dia. wire and they lifted the front 1 5/8". There was still some room to correct the positive camber but I think that you might run into trouble lifting it much more than 2" plus, the ride might not be very good.

I run 265/75 16 E rated Nitto A/T's and have about 3/4" of clearance on a turn. I could probably get away with 285's if I opened up the fenders and added some Bushwhackers. But 285's will really mess with the gearing.

Another thing to consider is that the I Beam is held in position by the Radius Arm.
The I Beam will be pulled rearward as it moves downward. The higher you lift it the less clearance you get at the back of the wheel opening.

Also, the caster is not adjustable on a Twin I Beam. It is determined by the I Beam and changes as the I Beam moves through the Arc of the Radius Arm.

You are probably pushing the limits at 2" of lift.

Thanks, great info

I agree there are limits with the geometry with the Ibeam, 1 1/2" and 265s would satisfy me I think.
Otto-max is in surrey BC, and funny enough so am I, did you purchase them direct?
I was also wondering if the wheels on your rig have less backspacing ( more positive offset) and if so how much?

I did a little bit of testing today. I drove one front wheel up a 1.5'- 2' ramp and checked the clearence on opposite corners. I did the same with the rear. Where my van is now, with just the front slightly lifted and the rear stock, 265's are about the limit for wheel well clearence. The fronts cleared well. I think that 285's on stock wheels would need some blocks or a different wheel backspacing.

Just an update, the 4000lb springs are $240, I am investigating front coil airbags a bit more before I pull the trigger.

vacman, I echo what you are saying. I just ordered the Airlift 1000 front airbags for $85. I am going to try them before trying new springs. I run a 255/70 and want to go up to either a 265/75 or 285/70. I do have aftermarket wheels 16x8. I will post up pics once they arrive.

I bought some moog springs ( amazon $80) that should give me about 2" of lift in the front. I am hoping to install them this weekend, and then see if we can get the camber right. i will be interested to seeing if you get some lift out of the coil bags,

spring is in the air...

the springs are Moog CC860 Variable Rate , I picked them by going tough the moog spring catalog online, i chose thees because the installed height was 2.5 inches more than stock. the spring rate is a bit lower, I didnt want to end up with too harsh of a ride and figured it would be easier to firm it up with air inserts if it was too soft, then to take out the springs if it was too rough. There seems to be alot of people wanting to get some more tire clearance but no one sharing the recipe and results?
My other brainwave is to go to e150 rear leafs, and airbags so i can have the comfy ride unloaded. But One thing at a time.......

Silver, can you post some close ups of the front end with the new springs?
