Backstory is that I have put the maxx lift spacers on my E350 Super Duty (5.4L), and had an alignment done. It works great, but the shocks I chose allow the suspension to droop out so far that the springs fall out of place, and that means stopping, sometimes jacking it up and kicking them back in place. It's damaged things already like the ABS sensor, and a brake line.
So, I am looking at some longer springs, but I can't tell if the spring rates are going to work out. What did these things come with originally?
The Moog CC860S Variable Rate Coil Spring is what I was looking at putting in, because it seems like it's going to be longer, but I don't know if the rates match well enough. Or is the load rating what I need to know?
Here is the data on this one:
Bar Diameter--0.828
End Type 1--Pigtail
End Type 2--Pigtail
Free Height--19.27
Inside Diameter--4.030
Install Height--16.00
Load in Pounds--1797.0
Spring Rate--549.0
I guess I could also use limiting straps, but I am not sure where to get them, or how well that would work out.
I could also use shorter shocks, or shock extenders on stock length shocks.
Maybe there is some kind of bracket that could be fabbed to just hold the spring down on the bottom pad too?
Long term, this van will probably stay 2wd. We will probably jump ship to a different van next year. But for now, we use the lift to keep us out of rocks on light trails, and get over humps, out of dips, etc. 4wd would be much better, of course, but $$$ in this van will never be recuperated.
If it helps, I got a set of limiting straps from right in SLC from 4WheelParts on redwood road. I figured out what I needed off their site in terms of what they carry, what lengths I needed etc. Than bought them there, if it helps. Or you can have them shipped right to your place. That's what I would do personally... You don't want to lift it any more I figure?
Not really, it's about two and a half to three over stock, so it's pretty much right where I need it. No doubt about it, I still drag the rear sometimes, and I have banged up the rockers on some rocks, but it's far better than it was.
Also, it appears that the fuel lines are at the bottom of the rocker right behind the drivers door, because they are exposed on my van now from a rock that peeled it up a bit. There is a big difference between this van and our Jeep, and sometimes I get carried away. Heh!
I was bombing along in my 4x4 E350, caught a big rock and it got into the drivers side rear wheel well. I got it out of there, and went back to driving. About 15 minutes later I am overheating. Open the hood, cool for an hour, pop the radiator cap.
Dry. Turns out if you have Rear AC, there are two engine coolant lines going to the rear heater core. They run through the freaking wheel well.
I would really look into getting the proper length shocks. They are used as the limiters on these ford vans. barring that, limit straps can be gotten at any 4 wheeling supply shop or online.
