My 1999 F-250 5.4 is leaking oil and i was going to try and replace the oil pan gasket. I read in the Haynes manual that i have to raise the engine. I was wondering if i really had to do this. If i do is there a new pan i can get that i wont have to raise the engine again. Thanks for any help you can give me
Unless you cut the crossmember below it, then yes, you have to lift the engine. If it helps any, for the 7.3 you pretty much have to completely pull the engine out... Are you sure it's coming from the block/pan junction, and not the dipstick area? On the 7.3s, the dipstick can get to leaking pretty good.
it's a big job, I passed on buying an 99' F350 because the oil pan was rusted out, my friend at a ford dealership said it was a 9-10 hour job for guys who have done it before.
