I have had occasional problems not being able to shift out of the Park position on the gear selector, which has usually been just an occasional inconvenience. The issue seems to be more frequent, however, and I am assuming this is the result of some problem with the brake light switch on the brake pedal. I know about the work around with turning the key on and then selecting neutral on the gear selector. Also I can reach under and wiggle the switch and then there's no problem. It's a random thing, with no particular situations leading to the to it not working. I took it to a service facility and of course everything worked just fine and they were not able to troubleshoot the problem.
Hope I've explained this correctly and maybe somebody will have an idea on what to look at. Thanks.
Also check your brake lights too, if they arent working, then its pretty much the switch going out. As stated above, its not too hard of a fix and could cause an accident, esp if you have no brake lights showing.
Yeah that happened to me too. 99f250 SD - brake lights and 3rd brake light not working. All turn signal, running lights and reverse lights was working, even the cab and bed light was working. . I went ahead and checked all bulbs, fuses, trailer harness wires, 3rd brake light, even bulb sockets. Might as well right.
Didn't find any problems than I focused my attention to the brake light pedal switch, blew some air in both male and female plugs. Then presto it works. I didn't see any wires shorted out I followed the wires pretty far too. Just a weird freak out.
I know I could've just went to the brake switch but I like to throughly go through it cause later on down the road you might not have to replace something again.
