I need to replace the outer ujoint on my TTB on the passenger side. Any idea about how the best way to get the axle out and get to the ujoint so i can replace it?
I did this when I replaced ball joints on my '91. (only did left side- now RH balljoints are loose- DOH!)
Take out lockout and spindle nut(s)* and then remove the hub / rotor assy.
Then you will have to unbolt the inner hub (has 6 bolts that hold it to the spindle) and then the axle shaft simply slides out.
Be sure to inspect wheel bearings and repack with fresh grease.
If theres an easier way, somebody let me know. I need to replace a joint on my F250.
It's not much different than that. Don't drain the oil at the beginning, you don't need to crack the case open at all for this. Don't make the spindle nut socket, they are only about $10 at the parts store. In order to get the passenger side axle out, you will have to take the rubber boot off and slide the axles apart.
The pass side axle shaft is held by a C clip in the diff so the easiest thing is to remove the clamp on the rubber boot and just pull the outer part of the shaft out at the slip joint. Make sure you mark it so it goes back in the same as it came out.
Can sombody scan and post the TTB exploded view? Im having trouble trying to get the hub off. I have the lock nut out, and C clip and the washers after that. ALso i pulled the other half washer that slides back into another bearing i belive. I cant tell if im forgetting something.
myne hasent looked like the one in the artical i posted. Its obisouly a manual lock out and mynes an auto, but even after that, seems to be a different hub configureation.
bump for help. IM really stuck here, the hub assembly is still on the axle and i dont see anything else that i need to remove. I need a exploded view or something here guys.
Pics would help a lot. Also try cleaning as much of the grease out of there as possible, you might be missing something that has to come out because it's covered in grease. I haven't messed too much with auto hubs so I can't help with the disassembly.
