One thought though if you're struggling with the correct resistor/LED setup and you only have 1k ohm resistors, you can connect two 1k resistors in parallel with each other, that will give you 500 ohms which is very close to the original 496ohms you needed. You would use a total of four 1k resistors but it would get the job done.

Don't forget the pics once you're done!
Ya and no offense to anyone but I didn't want to muddy the waters.
Extreme dissatisfaction with Radio Shack LEDs. 6.3 mcd does NOT give off a very strong light. Barely visible. Project is on hold until I can find better LEDs Does anyone know a store where I can get brighter LEDs??
just loooked on there found the 8000 mcd 45 degree green led. need to find more lights to get from them 5 for shipping so i want to get like tailights and turn signals before i just get two led's. so are those led's going to be good enough and what other bulbs can i get from there. thanks good site
That is the site I used when I did an LED project on a TS Chip Switch. It tells you everything you need to know (and it has pictures). There are links to resistor calculators as well.. Hope this helps you out...
Ok so now i got the ZOODAD done how i want. and have time to finish my write up. ok so what i had to do was order some new led's off of superbright leds . com. i got the 8000mcd at a 45 degree angle pattern got four and only have two installled. here is some pics:
kinda THE SETUP OF WHAT I HAD kitchen counter top a walmart soldering iron and led holder from radio shack and 16 ga wire
first attempt using two resistors found out dont try and do the math and get them in paraller or series just get the closest resistor ohms you can for what you need. so i got a set of 5 560 ohm resistors when i need 505 ohm's
finished product
so this is what i finished up with.
for all those that havent followed this thread.
zoodad mod in cstom shape using a dremel
wired up a set of two green 8000 mcd led's
cut in to the amber lighs (parking lights) for power
whenever the amber's have power these will so even whenyou lock your truck it flashes. kinda cool. any one have questions willing to help
ya i saw al the people that just cut the hoels and left it at that. i mean you can do alot of things with a dremel. **** could of cut the ford symbol out. i just figured more flow is better than no flow so i didnt need that gapping whole in my grill
