Anyone know what ford gets for the front diff cover? Not sure if its worth the time to scrape the rust and repaint mine or buy another. Price will dictate..
It took me 5 minutes to use a wire wheel on a bench grinder to completely remove all rust. Another 5 minutes using a 90 degree air grinder w/ a pad to polish the metal. Then I used rubbing alcohol and a paper towel to clean and I painted it with Rustoleum high temp grill paint. It cost me less than $7.

Yea I hear ya, but there is rust all over it and if its 30 bucks for new one ill do that. Two small kids keep me from taking my time at doing anything..But if its gonna cost me more than that Iwill repaint...Already have the high temp black from spraying rust spots on oil pan..
I was not happy with my Royal Purple 75W-140 OUA results from the rear diff on my 2003 F-250. Ran it for 33K (about 8K pulling 31' 5th wheel) and the viscosity dropped down to a 90 weight and the oxidation was at 100. Have Schaeffer's in there now - I need another 2,000 miles on it do do a side by side comparison of 33K.

DARN IT DARN IT DARN IT
I just picked up royal purple for my truck, and I really wanted to use it.
Maybe ill put it in the front diff where its not used as much.
Now I need another 50 dollars worth of gear oil for the back. All that is available in my area is valvoline synthetic, bummer.
How much does 4quarts of schaffer oil cost shipped to 04093?
I ended up using the ford motorcraft synthetic front and back. Got 85000 miles with it before so im hoping for another 85000 without problems. Time will tell...

Hey JR,
Unfortunately Schaeffer's 75W-140 (#167) smallest container is 5 gallons. So, that throws it out the door for many folks. I've got a bucket out here - so if you come through South Dakota you are welcome to use what you need.
The new sheafers diff is 80-140 syn. But like you said, 5 gallon buckets. I talked to the rep today and ordered two cases of 7000 oil syn and there trans fuild 204S. Going to run this in my boys truck then mine when its time. The reps trying to find me the diff fuild for fleet customers in smaller containers but if not I'm using amsoil in the boys because he's towing 16000#. My neighber use it and said the temp goes down much faster when towing. As you climb the temp goes up quick but the motorcraft would stay at that temp where the amsoil droped back down very quickly. Just my 2 cents. Chet
I've always used AMSOIL gear lube in all of my vehicles diffs. Havent had to put any in a vehicle in a few years but some research on there website can answer your questions about them.
