I have a 2008 F250 - Job 1 with intermittent cruise control function. Occasionally when I turn on cruise and hit set, it does not come on no matter how many times I push on and set (at or above 30 - 35 mph). Much of the time I can shut my truck down and restart and cruise will work, but not always. Once it is working - I can turn off cruise and restart it and it always works. If I turn my truck off there is a chance the cruise will not start. Anyone have a similar problem?
Yeah, almost sounds like the "ON" button isn't connecting well. If that didn't work, no matter how many times you press "set", it isn't going to listen, without seeing "ON" first.
On second thought... there was some electrical reason for cruise not working that someone else had posted. Possibly on another forum. Is everything else on the truck working properly? No odd behavior?

No other issues or problems. I'm half thinking it is a switch issue or a sensor problem. I took it to the dealer today and they immediately pulled the steering wheel switch. In the past, without fail if the cruise did not work I could shut off the truck and it always would work. Since they pull the switch today - I have only been able to get it to turn on once - no matter how many times the truck has been shut down and re-started. I have an appointment tomorrow to have them hopefully figure out the issue. I'll post the solution.
I would tend to look at the interlocks that are required to be satisfied prior to the cruise control working, e.g., brake or clutch engagement. Perhaps the brake light contact switch is intermittent or maladjusted and will not allow the cruise to become engaged?
I have had the same problem. I keep thinking its me or the weather. When I turn it on I am careful of how I press the ON side. This has seemed to help but I'll keep an eye on this post to make sure it keeps running in time.
sounds fimilar. I had the same issue over the summer. First the dealer replaced brake switch, it worked than 500 miles later it quite again. Went back to the dealer, it took them all day to diagnose it as a second brake switch, they replaced it and it has worked so far, im sure glad i bought the extended warranty
