Intercooler Pipe Size

What size pipe you guys running for intercooler piping? What size is the Superduty pipe and what size comes in the aftermarket kits? I was looking at running 3" aluminum unless someone recommends a bigger size?

Most if not all are 3", and I would buy SS instead aluminum if possible.

3" for sure. The connections on the 6.0 cooler are 3" and I think the other side is 3.25" IIRC.

Why do you recommend stainless? I just built a 304 stainless exhaust, big dollars... Something wrong with aluminum?

So pretty much everyone's sayin to go with 3" pipe, I suspose bigger would be a pita to route and would cause more lag?

3 inch is more then enough, i would say go bigger if you have a huge turbo and huge injectors, but also dont forget about your acutal intake size going to the heads, its onyl 2 inch unless you upgrade to superduty ones, then they are 3 inch

Yeah I'm upgrading to the larger superduty intakes as well. Those are a direct swap I believe, correct? And whats the story about the gasket sealant, I recall something about some magical gray stuff that's now discontinued from Ford?

Well I know stainless is big dollars, maybe just steel and not aluminum (and remember I said: if possible), the reason is that there are some things there that can rubb the pipe and the aluminum is the less resistant.

Hmm, I appreciate the advice but personally I think if you have something rubbing that bad that it wears through a 1/16" thick wall of pipe, you have some serious issues to address.

I used grey sealant from any parts store. The SD plenums are a direct fit.
