Lie-o-meter? Gas mileage overhead display.. What MPG do you get?

Is there any fix to these overhead units to make them more accurate? Mine is consistantly 8-12 mpg off of actual miles per gallon. Darn thing actually made me run out of fuel because it said i had 35 miles till empty

Also wondering what kind of mileage y'all get. I've got a completely stock 2x4 99 7.3 and cant seem to beat 18 hwy unloaded and 16 towing a flatbed with my race car on the back.

Some pictures because i know that makes internet threads that much better:

Thanks guys/gals

Welcome to FTE....I have not read anything here where someone has adjusted it to make it more accurate. Most run chips or tuners which will really throw it off.
I cannot give you a true answer on MPG's on mine.I used to try and keep track of it but now when it needs fuel I fill it up.I know I am going to be driving it a long time so really no need to worry about MPG's on my end unless I have some performance issues start.Just me though, others will chime in.

That doesnt sound good. I dont have a lie o meter myself but Im sure there must be some fix to it. As far as your truck is concerned that is pretty good mileage. I am getting the same myself but not nearly as good as you pulling a trailer. I get about 11 doing that. OH BTW welcome to the forum. Hopefully somebody will come a long an answer your question

What kind off racing do you do with your car. Looks like a fast sucker.

A stock truck (meaning no tuner and stock tire size) shouldn't be that far off. Your mileage is actually on the high-side, which is good. I get anywhere from 14 mpg if I'm hammering it and only drive mostly in town, up to 22+ on the highway keeping it at 70 or below. But I'm running hybrid single-shot injectors now. It's FAAAAAR from stock.

Right now my meter is only showing 29.2 mpg. I have had it up to 57.9 mpg before I got live tuned. I'm very happy with these numbers.

My OTC is showing 30.0 mpg and and used to average on the low 40's before live tuning. WTH happened!

Barry, all you have to do is to install a turbo and injectors and get tuned for them. Then you will be with Roland and I in the mpg.

I know it sucks we lost that much mpg with live tuning. I wonder if it was worth it.

I used to get 16-18 mpg but after I installed big & heavy 20" wheels with 37" tires, it dropped to about 14-14.5...
Quite a drop but IMO worth it...

I say "YES!" Well worth it.
Actually, I haven't seen any real world loss in mpgs (up slightly, when I drive it easy) and the power increase is AMAZING.

There is no fix for the overhead display. They automatically calculate mileage based on throttle position, speed, RPM, and pulsewidth (IIRC, been a while since I looked at the data inputs). Adding a chip or programmer really throws it off big time because of the changes to throttle position and pulsewidth. Right now there is no tuning adjustments for the overhead display, as it is not part of the PCM, but rather a separate module, and no aftermarket company has come out with anything to mess with it.
