I put a used motor in py truck that was suposibly rebuilt. I started it up and it sounds good but no oil pressure and no oil going into the valve cover area. Any ideas what it could be at this point. Thanks Every body . Jeff
jeff, you didn't say what kind of engine you have, not that it matters. does it have a mechanical oil guage or electronic? if it's electronic it may be the sender, but the fact that you have no oil going to the rocker arms tells a big story, maybe the pump was put in used, air locked and not working, no gasket on pump, shaft from pump to distributor left out. pumps on the slicks need to be primed before installation. If it was primed it may have ruined the pump by running it dry. either way it sounds like you may have to pull the pan off and replace the oil pump or at least pull the distributor and see if the drive shaft is in there. either way it's not an easy fix. let us know what it is when you find out. hope this helps some. Sorry its a 240 inline 6 from a 65 f100 it sounds like i should have primed the oil pump, So now im trying to figure out how to prime the oil pump. Any ideas how to do this and any other ideas it could be? Let me know. Thanks Jeff
pull the distributor, if you look at the bottom of the distributor shaft you will see how it is keyed to the oil pump shaft, probably a 5/16 hex, make an adapter with a socket and put it on a drill and spin the oil pump without starting the engine. Keep it spinning until your pumping good oil out the top of the rockers. Put it back together and fire it up.
Ok i spun the heck out of it with no luck. I have a spare blown motor, and i took the oil pump off it and put it in a bucket of oil and spun the pump with the shank and oil flew right out of the hole. So i pulled my oil pump off my truck and did the same thing. And it seems to work just as good as the other. I also took a wire through the oil filter hole into the oil pan to make sure that its not cloged there. I just dont understand why oil is not atleast shooting out there. I had about 5 quarts of oil in the truck. I dont now what next am i missing something. Help Please. God Bless Jeff

OK, it's not rocket science, it's a pump and some passages, there has to be a clog that wont let the oil threw. follow the path, a couple of easy places to check are the oil filter,(take it off and spin the pump) and the oil pressure sender hole,(pull that and do the same. If you have oil that far I would drain the oil and fill the crankcase with diesel fuel and see if you can pump that threw, that will do 2 things, it's thinner so it has a better chance of getting threw a tight passage, and it has detergent that will help to clean the passages.
PS, I'm humg over so somebody should proof read this

Had same issue with fresh rebuild on my 352. Turns out that one of the oil galley plugs popped out.
I found the problem. Im an ideot. It was a bent pick up screen it was just sucking air. Now it runs excellent i love this old truck. Me and my 14 year old boy have been working on it for the last two weeks. Thanks for all your help. Jeff
