How much oil for compressor?
With the York, all the oil goes in the crankcase of the Compressor. There is a plug on the side that allows you to fill it. No oil is put in the system with this set up.
Here is some info regarding filling the crankcase:
heres how to check the oil level, if the plug on the side is visible. If vertical mount the plug is on the side, if horizontal its on top.
the valve stems, if it has a 1/4 square on each valve, need to be cranked all the way out, this seals the r12 inside the hoses. slowly remove the plug, its either 1/2 or 9/16.
make a dipstick out of mechanics wire, about 8-9 inches long.
I horizontal mount, the oil should be about 1"
if vertical, about 1 1/2", you will have to put a curve on the wire so it plumbs the bottom of the crankcase.
add as necessary, seal the plug, vacuum out the compressor for a couple minutes, then middle seat the valve stems, and you are ok, we hope.
