I have used brake cleaner all 3 times. I put electrical tape over the two holes and over the connector port on top of the valve and spray the **** out of it!

Just an FYI - Ford states that there is a shaft seal that is softened by brake cleaner. They state to use only Carb cleaner because ....... any cleaner has great wicking properties. Spraying the valve and the stem will expose the cleaner to the shaft seal as the cleaner flows and penetrates the gunk. To prolong the life of the shaft seal, use only Carb cleaner. Covering the holes that are open to the inner parts of the actuator is an absolute MUST with any cleaner.

I have been following the article in the tech folder which states brake cleaner. Might want to see if you can get it revised Mark.

Thanks for the post - it may be hard to get changed, but I will float the suggestion.

npccpartsman noted on post #91 (page 3) of the tech folder thread to not use brake cleaner. Pretty hard to find that note in the whole thread!!

At about 1:40 seconds into the Ford video below, they make the recommendation to not use brake cleaner:

If you opt to clean the egr valve, dont forget to clean the ports inside the intake while its apart. I use a shop vac with a small flexible tube duct taped to the hose. youd be amazzzzed at what you find
