My 04 in running really bad and ruff when cold. Even after the temp. gauge moves up. I plug it in and it runs fine. No problem starting, runs like it is missing, temps under 50 it is doing this. I am also not getting any heat unless I run above 1500 rpm, even if it is warmed up. Don't know if the two are related....
Winter in coming in Michigan fast this year looking to get it fixed. please help!
I don't know if this is true, but I had to replace water pump on a 05 F350 and when I was done it had no heat, I checked everything I could and then sent it to dealer they said I had installed a aftermarket water pump and the pump ran dry and messed up the front cover???? Anyway long story short after I produced the receipt for the FORD pump and some other parts they covered it under warranty. I never did get to see any old parts [I guess because I did not pay them a dime] But everything worked and I never sent another vehicle to them! You really need to give more info on your truck ie service date, oil weight ,year model etc.
It's pretty tough to help because (1) you didn't give us enough info and (2) you contridict yourself.
First, how many miles on the truck...are you the only owner? Second, you say you plug it in and it runs fine...but then you say it is missing.
I live in WV, I plug mine in anytime the temp drops below 40. Remember your oil turns to the consistancy of molassas when it gets cold...unless you're using a syn oil. By plugging it in, you keep your oil from becoming thick...you're also taking a lot of strain off of your starter and batteries too.
How long are you letting yours warm up? I start mine when I let the dogs out in the morning. I unplug it and go back in the house to load my pockets and grab the laptop. Mine runs for about 5 minutes before I jump in and drive off. The air isn't hot but it certainly isn't cold. Within another 5 minutes, I have to turn the heater down before it runs me out of the truck.
sorry - I have 135,000 miles I have owned it since 15,000 miles.
if I don't plug it in it runs bad. I never had to do it before! The past few years below 30 I plugged it in. Now if it below 50 it runs bad.
On the no heat issue- I ran it for hundred miles, then after driving at low speeds for about half an hour I had cool air coming out of the vents, until i revved the motor.
have you ever had any puking issues my 03 was doing this last winter no heat under 1500rpm in my case it was cracked heads i put new heads arp studs and an egr delete on and problem solved good luck
Do a search, there are about 3 million threads on this problem.
Most will tell you to reflash, FICM, etc.
But on my trucks it has always been bad injectors.
I currently have 3 6.0's and all run rough. Between just 2 of them, I have had 9 injectors replaced. Total of 130K miles, give or take. My guess is I have at least 9 more between all of them, but they are all out of warranty now. And they all have had synthetic oil for a couple years.
This is an old thread that has been resurrected for some purpose (not sure what), but what the heck .....
Get the most recent flash, install the updated fuel pressure regulator spring, monitor your fuel pressure, use OEM fuel filters (Racor or Motorcraft or International), do your best to get good quality fuel, use a cetane boost additive, keep your oil clean, and your injectors will be very reliable (in the vast majority of cases).
