Hello , Yesterday I went in to get a full service on my 2005 F250. When they changed my fuel filters, they asked me who was the last person to change the fuel filters. Since I bought the truck used with 61000 miles. I don't know who if it was ever changed. Anyways he showed me a piece that was broken off that has an o-ring attached to it that fits into the filter. He told me that I should get it fixed asap. Is this something that i should worry about, can i fix it, or should i take it in?
The only O-rings that I'm aware of on the fuel filters are in the caps that are removed to access the filters. Is this what your referring to? If they are damaged you can simply buy a replacement.
Agreed, it sounds like either the large or small cap. But I don't know how they got it to seal back up if it was broken. That's a little confusing, but chances are they just broke the cap because it was improperly torqued last time, or maybe had just been on there way too long. You can definitely replace a cap yourself. If it's not leaking, I would probably just do it in 10k miles when you replace the filter elements.
Could also have been the water drain plug. Was this piece plastic (filter cap) or aluminum (water drain plug)?

Who did you have service the truck? If it was a quickie place I would have reservations on who actually broke it?
