The pics were just for a style representation of what I'm thinking, if I go this route Id be making it. Instead of making it stick out so much and having the winch in the bumper Id incorporate a receiver hitch so the winch could be used front or back and d-ring tabs would be attached to the frame along with the receiver hitch. I've been thinking of getting some foam core board and messing around with it until I come up with something I like before I go out and buy steel, that way I can actually mount it to the truck, step back and get an overall look. Plus I'd have all my templates.
but keep the thoughts and pics coming
That is my fab plan as well but I'm just going to use cardboard to fab up the pieces. I will make up one just like the one I have on my Blazer. Once I get a cardboard version exactly how I like it, I will then buy the steel, cut it, and tack it together. I have a MIG welder but my welds are not the best. So, I will probably put it all together with just tack welds and take it to a guy I know who TIG welds like nobody I've seen and have him finish all the welds.
I have been thinking about making a bumper for a while.
In fact - I have a bunch of pics saved to guide me when I get around to it.
Here are some pics I have saved. I am including a few more that boggin79ford didn't post here as I like his. I'll start with those.
Now one by "protofab" that I saw on here. Supposedly a bolt on.

I prefer these ones though as they stick with the older style of the truck better.
I saw this one on another site. It was made for a jeep but the guy is putting in on his exploder. He ordered it without the top hoop and I REALLY like the shape and want to make one like it to fit the crew. I'm pretty sure you can order them to work with a winch.
I just don't like the $500+ price tag so I'll make my own.
Plus - I just bought this
And it will go in this, or in the rear - so my bumper will be just that - a bumper. No winch mount in it for me
Chasetruck those last two pics of bumpers you posted are a really cool design. I was kinda hoping/waiting to see if you had anything cool planed for your crew build. I've been following it since your doing a lot of the things I have planned, gotta say your doing an awesome job and it should be pretty sweet when its done.
Here's a link to mine if you want to check it out.....I'm still very far from any of the fun suspension work or even bumpers but it'll be there someday.......if I ever get my butt in gear https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...y-project.html
I dont have many pics of how it was done but i can somewhat explain it.
When i got the truck someone had welded in a rectangular tube to move the front spring mounts down and add some lift. The top of the tube provided the base for mounting the winch. I then added 2" of body lift and drilled new holes to raise the rad an additional 1.5" and give me enough room to fit the winch inbetween the tube and the bottom of the rad. I drilled four holes in the top of the tube and was able to securely mount the winch. I had to remove the control box and attach it to the engine bay side of the fenderwell. This keeps the control box out of the elements and still allows me to plug in the remote when i need it. I can also reach under the bumper and flip the lever to allow the winch to freespool. Its really great since it makes it virtually impossible to tamper with or steal. Once the winch was all bolted down, i reattached the bumper using my homemade mounts and cut a hole so that the fairlead would fit on the front of the bumper. I also attached some checkerplate and clasps to the front of the tube to add style/functionality.
This pic shows the tube that was welded in to mount the winch to:
Hope this helps, really its because of the tube/body/rad lift that i could make it all work.
well you wouldnt absolutely need body lift, just lift the rad 3.5", instead of the 1.5" i had to do. Or let the winch sit lower inbetween the frame rails and not lift the rad at all.
I run dual pass, aluminum radiators any ways so my radiators are already in a different spot that stock ones, but I think it's the bottom of the core support that causes the issue.
