Im not sure about the specific setup, but sounds like its window regulator assy time.
I replaced one in my daughters Alero a few years back, and it was a breeze really.I was prepared for an all afternoon job.
IF the regulators in our Fords are anything like the cars are,its an assembly of plastic wheels, cables, and a motor.
There is a possibility that its binding at the lower seal,or perhaps "garbage" in the window track itself.
Go to Auto Parts Fast at RockAuto and look up your window regulator assy...once you have found it,click on the info icon, and youll be able to see what it looks like...
It helps ease their burden to periodically take a can of spray silicone, put the little tube on it, roll the glass down, use a rag to control overspray, and soak the window track.
If it runs out the bottom of the door, it'll wash off.
I just took my 07 to the dealer last friday to get my drivers side window fixed under warrenty. The window went down with no issue, but i'd have to push the button quite a few times to get it to go up. It seemed like a short, because sometimes it would work fine.
The dealer replaced the switch, and it took about an hour to do..not bad. On the paper work it said "replaced driver side window switch..known problem" and the guy at the shop said they've had a few people have the same problem.
