That radio is not from any 79-earlier truck, no 8 tracks were offered back then. It is more than likely a car radio and the posts are not going to be the same as the truck radio. Ask the seller for the center to center measurements for the posts and compare to yours. AFAIK that was the only difference from a car to truck radio.
No car radio, no truck radio from the 1980's/1990's or whatever...with/without a tape player...will fit a 1973/79 F100/350 or 1978/79 Bronco properly.
Ford did not offer a radio/tape player combination for 1973/79 F100/350's or 1978/79 Bronco's.
What they did offer was a separate 8 track tape player that bolted to the bottom of the dash...also was used in some passenger cars like Maverick/Comets.
NOTE: Most ebay sellers are clueless, don't know diddly-squat about what fits what. This "78-79-80-81-82-83-84" horse dung is a TYPICAL example.
ALL Ford radio chassis have ID numbers stamped on them.
If the radio in question does not have the following ID number prefixes, it will not fit:
D3TA / D4TA / D5TA / D6TA / D7TA / D8TA / D9TA.
The entire ID number will be similar to this: D6TA-18806-AA
That looks like the AM/FM/8-track that came in my sister's 1977 Mustang. It was black with gold pin stripes, and gold seat inserts, with a 302, snappy little thing too! I only ever saw them in T-birds, LTD's, or town cars back in the day. Supprisingly not that often either, its not like they were a dime a dozen, and no one really seemed to care.
Well, in the later seventies the cassette was becoming the wave of the future, and everyone was so amazed how much smaller they were, and still had the same amount of music.
I remember some of the early ones did not have the auto reverse function, and you had to pop the cassette out and flip it over.

Yeah, I tried mounting one of those just for the hell of it and you really have to modify the dash bezel so unless you are creative, it will look like crap.
My truck did have a AM-FM-8track Ford radio in it when I bought the truck. For several years I thought it was the stock radio. It looked right and seemed to fit right. It wasn't till after I removed it to put in a CD/AM/FM/XM radio in that I found the dash bezel had been modified to make it fit.
They can be put in the truck and made to look right, but a good hand with a saw and grinder are needed. If I had read this post a couple years ago, I'm afraid I would have called BS as I was convinced in my pointed little head I had a stock radio.
I don't know if your interested but I recently installed the "Retro Sound Model One" radio from Crutchfield.com in my 79. I really like this radio, It will play mp3's on a thumb drive or an I-pod. Crutchfield sends everything you need to install the radio. At first I ordered the black one but after holding in in place on the dash did not like the looks of it so I exchanged it for the chrome faced one. It comes with a face plate to fit the dash. My dash had been cut before so I had to modify the universal kit some to fit but it came out great. The price might scare some off but it is well worth the money. See the site listed, I know you would like this as it's a great radio.
If you click on my name and go to my albums I added a couple pictures of the RetroSound radio installation. My dash had been cut before so I had to use the universal kit and the plate is a tad different shade black than the original dash but it doesn't show up much. If the dash had not been cut the kit they send for the mounting would look almost like it was from the factory. In the future I may buy a new bezel for the dash and use the other kit to make it look factory installed.
to this thread but here is my experience. I have 1975 F150 and have gone through more auto wrecking yards than I care to admit. Have a few cars on the go and help others with their search. I have not found anything in a AM FM Radio let alone a combination with cassette or 8 track that will fit. I have purchased both cassette and 8 track versions in similar years but opening is to small on plastic portion of the dash. Very frustrating because I can't stand AM any more, all talk shows and want to stay stock. Looking at after market now.
I do have a question though. I am looking at buying LMC F150 front fenders and the rear inner/outer panels for the box. Has anyone out there bought these products from LMC and if so how did it work out for install and finish
