Cam position sensor

My friend has an 05 6 litre and it wont start. He checked the computer and siad that it says the cam position sensor is bad. How hard is it to replace? I havent been able to find a "how to" link. Any help would be appreciated.

Many time the cam sensor code is a result, not a cause. You can get a cam sensor code any tine the vehicle stalls.

Location: hidden behind p/s pump driver side. Held in by a 8mm bolt. It is very long. You need a 1/4 inch drive ratchet w/ an 8mm socket and a long extension.

<TABLE style="WIDTH: 677pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=903 x:str><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 677pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 31904" width=903><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 13.6pt" height=18><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #d4d0c8; BORDER-LEFT: #d4d0c8; BACKGROUND-COLOR: yellow; WIDTH: 677pt; HEIGHT: 13.6pt; BORDER-TOP: #d4d0c8; BORDER-RIGHT: #d4d0c8" class=xl25 height=18 width=903>CMP Removal from the manual:</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 103.25pt" height=138><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #d4d0c8; BORDER-LEFT: #d4d0c8; BACKGROUND-COLOR: yellow; WIDTH: 677pt; HEIGHT: 103.25pt; BORDER-TOP: #d4d0c8; BORDER-RIGHT: #d4d0c8" class=xl24 height=138 width=903>1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02.
2. CAUTION: Make sure the ignition switch is in the OFF position prior to working on the electronic engine controls.
3. Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt from the power steering pump pulley.
4. Remove the 3 bolts and position the power steering pump aside.
• To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
5. NOTE: The CMP sensor is located behind the power steering pump.
Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.
6. Remove the bolt and the CMP sensor. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

It can be easily done from underneath with an 8mm flexhead gearwrench without taking anything else loose. Just did mine a couple of weeks ago. I will only come out one way. You might want to check for a broken o-ring causing an oil leak into the electrical connector. That was my issue with intermittent signal and two CMP codes, I believe.

Tim, Did you clean the connector and install new O ring or replace the whole thing?
