I agree, Pete. I don't think of it as too much of a bad thing though. I always try to be friendly to the non-7.3'er, but my patients isn't perfect. Some folks just seem to like trolling too much, and I take the bait sometimes. That's why I have mostly stayed out of the other sub-forums here.

I know we as different type of Ford truck owners are cliquish, but I'm really trying to see it in here, and can't really come up with any examples. I and pretty much everyone in here seem to be very friendly to everyone, occasional troll excepted. LOL

As a relative newbie here, I must say that I have not noticed any 'cliques' to speak of. I have noticed that there are a few that banter in a fun loving way, and some that seem to get together every so often.(I believe geographical location has much to do with that.) Some day, I too would enjoy meeting some of you in person. I say that because nearly every post I've made has been responded to with respect, honesty, and some amazing money saving information. (Well, except for the mods). I truly enjoy coming here because of that.

I will admit there was one occasion where I responded in a thread and one individual 'slighted' me in an offhand sort of way, at least that's the way I percieved it. After thinking about it, I figured:
1.) Perhaps I'm being oversensitive.
2.) I have no idea what kind of day this guy had, and maybe he had a bad one.
3.) He just had a few beers and blurted it out.
Regardless, subsequent threads showed none of that attitude coming from him whatsoever.

What is so great about the people on this forum is the wide range of folks here. All ages, from 20 years old and up,coming from all walks of life. From newbies to gurus, always contributing productive and helpful advice. I check in here many times a day. I'd say I read 75% of the threads. I like it here.

Agreed. I rarely ever go to that forum for that very reason.

Same in the Ex forum. I was there just recently discussing the deep trans pan and saw a lot of jabs taking place. That generally doesn't happen in this particular sub-forum...
Welcome to my world. Thankfully, unless it's a PSD/V10 thread (yeah, we get those in the Ex forum too) it doesn't usually get that...jabby.

Agreed.

This place can be a lot more cliquish than some would think, but it's probably the most laid back, relaxed, inclusive clique-type clique anyone can encounter.

The forums are full of brand loyal folks. There's nothing wrong with that. Folks give out advice to the best of their ability. Everything I know about our truck, I've learned from this forum. I'm very grateful for this. I consider myself mechanically inclined, but I recently performed maintenance out of my league because of this place. I saved us a few grand by doing so. This is a good thing.

I would think one should be able to form their own conclusions based on everything they read while taking everything into consideration on these boards. It's the internet, anyone can say anything they want to a degree. Anyone who is easily enraged or upset by things said on the internet needs to realize it's just the internet.

My opinion:

This place has become just as cliquish as most I visit. Actually more than one of them. Polite, but cliquish. Just because we/FTE 7.3 don't cuss or call people stupid doesn't mean it isn't happening.

I have more but it would be counter productive.

Thanks for taking the time to read.
Guess what, you are part of the clique. Whether you think you are or not, you're guilty like everyone else here. I've always lumped you in with the more senior and knowledgeable people around here. You just did something nice for Platinum Pete too...

But even this thread you started appears to be passive aggressively written to elicit some type of response as if you're fishing. Maybe, maybe not; I can only call it from my point of view. One of the reasons I like it here and stay only here is the lack of drama. I don't even like it when someone brings up other forums like PSN, because it just gets weird and I've yet to see it end well, not that I've been around long.

Its amazing how a little sleep can make you see a bigger picture.

So clique is the referrence. Anytime I am not 100% on what to make of a word I always call on my friends Merriam and Webster...

Let me try to understand what you mean here Jason. This is what I am getting out of what you are saying.

When someone starts a thread asking, what is the best exhaust for my truck? I always come back and say MBRP. WHY, because that is what I have, and it works well for me. Someone else will come in and say another brand because that is what they have and it works well for them. The same thing goes for intakes, gauges, oil, VB's, and so on. I wonder what this forum would be like if we all had the same mods?

I think the biggest thing that gets under peoples skin, is, what is the best chip/tuner for the 7.3? AGAIN, people will talk about what chip they have. I don't think many of us have run ALL the chips/tuners that are talked about in this forum. I for one have never said, so and so's, chip is not good, so I went with so and so's. Well, I did when I had the Superchip.

I have been wrong before.

Call it what you want. I still think the 7.3 forum is a great place to learn and hang out with people of a common interest. I agree with Rick that we sometimes tend to "stick to our own", but that is a natural instinct. I don't agree too much with bashing, but am quick to say what I feel works the best IMHO.

Each of us has a few others we seem to be able to communicate with better, agree with more often, have equipment or mods in common, or with whom we have similar outside interests.

There are others with whom we share a common ethic, or a common experience, or a common interest or background. Toward them we seem to gravitate more readily

These are things upon which "cliques" are based.

Look at a cocktail party. Do you see one big group standing in the center, or a few small groups chatting on completely different subjects? It's more likely the latter. It's the same here, and it's completely natural.

What's nice about the atmosphere here is that I can leave the group standing over by the bar and move into the group by the fireplace and be immediately and completely accepted by the new group. There's no resistance at all. As contrasted to some other forums, it's the attitude of the people that make up these groups that's different at "7.3".

This group has seen a few physical get-togethers recently, and the participants have had long threads in anticipation, and later recollection, of that event. As a result of participation, there may be some stronger bonding than would be found if only communicating electronically, but that's pretty natural after "eyeballing".

It seems that anyone who wants to get "in the clique" need only participate in the discussion to be accepted. I find no person or group is exclusionary to any other around here.

So, what's different about us? Personally, I believe we all have a bit of very low-key snobbish camaraderie, as we drive the finest trucks, with the finest, most reliable powerplant, and absolutely we know it! We just don't have to brag to the others about it as loud as they have to, 'cause we're SURE about it. I made a very good choice in my truck purchase, and you did too.

I LIKE the exchange with others that have sound judgment.
