I know this isnt a Ford and I really hope the moderators will leave this one be for a little but my uncle has a 95 Crapolier that he put a new starter in it. It cranked over properly twice and started the car but something sounded a litttle wrong. Went to start it the third time and the starter wouldnt turn off just kept cranking until he undid the battery. He's lost so I thought I would throw it up here. He told me he had to fix one of the wires because it had broke and he didnt remember which post it went to. I think he put the wire on the wrong post could that possibly be the case??
I would check the ignition switch and the part where your key fits in and make sure it's kicking back to Run when you let go. On my truck, there's been times that it would stay in the Start position until I moved it back to Run. Happened enough times that I do that without even thinking about it, lol.
I'd also check the start solenoid or starter relay, depending on which it has.
if it worked a couple times it must have been hooked up right, either the solenoid stuck (Bad starter) or the small wire (from switch)is touching the big one (from battery)

He had to undo the battery to get the car to stop cranking even with the key out of the car itll still crank.
Is he sure he put the started on correctly? Such as even and straight? It fairly common to put them on slightly tilted and they wont work right.
If i were him id disconnect the wires, unbolt the starter, check it out and see if it looks sound, make sure its bolted on straight with no gap, and connect the wires back up and see if it works.
In the few hundred starters I have installed I have never had a problem with it not being put in straight and even. Its not a matter of the starter wont work. I cranks but it cranks constantly as soon as power is put to the car. Thanks Kirby and Bashby and Texans I'll have him disconnect the wire and see what happens. Wish I wasnt 800mi away at college I'd be able to take a look at it myself and see if I could figure it out. I really appreciate the help guys.
