06 SCREW power problems
1. Wife went to start after a week of sitting truck woudln't on first go she turned key off and tried again truck started ran fine.
2. Went back out a week later to start and nothing keyless entry wouldn't work and auto locks would not work from inside of truck (door) turned key and all she got was clicking.
3. buddy jump started off his truck, my truck started and ran fine for about 20 min, 4 hours later wife went back out to just see if it would start and nothing again auto lights turned on but would not shut off even when she turn the lights to on then off they would not go out.
4. buddy came back unhooked battery for a couple of min and hooked battery back up and heard odd clicking under the passenger door but could not find. (key was off)
5. Have had no problem with truck before wife had been driving it everyday or everyother till we bought her a new one and now truck is sitting. Only thing i changed a couple weeks ago when i was home is added a back up camera but the monitor is unhooked and transmitter is hooked to the reverse light and only powers when truck goes in reverse. I also left my evo hooked up this time before i took it out of truck when i was gone for so long.
currently battery is unhooked, will it hurt for my truck to sit and do nothing for about a 50 days i will be home then to mess with it.
sorry for the long thread, and thanks for any help you can provide.
as for your question, that sounds exactly like a dead/bad battery. When the battery goes bad in these things, the truck goes ape****.
The radio will cycle and make noises, you will hear relays, the doors will refuse to work. Really freaky. Stuff will makes noises that shouldn't be. I would definetaly leave the battery disconnected until a new one can be installed
I recommend you have your wife pick up at least a 800 CCA or bigger battery. Run you about $100-120 and will solve your problem. The 800+ CCA will really help crank over the 5.4, and if you have a radio system or accessories it would be a nice "upgrade" over the stock battery
If you want to make sure it's the issue, have her take the current battery to any local Parts Store. They can run a real quick test on the battery.
Stay Safe and well.
One thing to keep in mind...lead acids don't like to sit in a discharged or partially discharged state for long. They longer they stay discharged, the more the plates sulfate and die a premature death. If you don't plan to use the truck for several months, it's best to simply disconnect the battery if you don't have access to a trickle charger.
I've had excellent luck with Kirkland batteries from Costco for the past 20yrs or so. They OEM them from Johnson Controls which also supplies batteries to Sears under the DieHard Gold/Platinum brands. They're the same 100month warranty and costs about $50 for our trucks.
I remember standing in line at an auto parts store listening to a couple kids complaining to the sales guy they've killed their 4th battery within several months and the store's batteries were no good. The sales guy stood there wondering how can that be. Apparently, the kids' had a monster stereo setup in there and the car was rarely driven other than for show and stereo competition purposes. The battery was never charged long enough to be full before it was drained completely and left there.
