I just bought my early 2008 f250 4x4 crewcab, and have been seeing 12mpg pretty consistently around town. Got up to 14 on the highway on some weekend trips from Austin to Dallas and back, but still expected better.
It seems to regen often, and i'm BABYing it a lot! It seems to not want to shift into lower gearing until it's really good and warmed up, and the boost is always a lot higher than i'd have expected... i saw 30lbs on the guage today with a few folks in it and slowly accelerating up to 60mph... that's nuts. It was up to temp also!
I's got 42k, but i don't know the history obviously.. jsut bought it. Should i take it into a dealership?

Most likely Ford would say it is operating as designed, if you have another concern to be addressed then you could ask for a reflash at the same time.
Here's some interesting information. For what it's worth I had my truck (job 1) in about 4 weeks ago for a cooler replacement. Evidently while they had it they reflashed with the latest ford settings. I didn't drive it much until last week so I just noticed the changes. One thing it did was quit sending me the "EXHAUST CLEANING" message. It still regens but the only way I can tell is to watch the MPG drop about .5 in a hurry. Also the tail pipe remains soot free. The other thing though is the truck seems to run better than it ever has. It may just be me or maybe the flat roads here in florida but I jist seem to have a lot less turbo lag and a lot more performance. Also my last two runs pulling a 17K lb 5er were 320 and 330 miles and I got hand calculated 9.6 and 10.1 MPG. Thats the best it's ever done. Take this for what it's worth because except for the mileage it's just my seat of the pants feelings. But if you can get the latest flash you might want to consider it.
