I picked up one of these in Daytona for my 302. It was a bargain at 65 bucks and new in the box. I knew my original distributor was shot (vacuum advance needed replacement) so this seemed like an inexpensive cure and update. Is anyone using one? Any comments on it good or bad?
Go with it. We put one in a 75ish Maverick I did a motor job on. Best darned upgrade you could possibly do to a small block ford. They're so simple, and the top half is compatible with all the Chevy HEI upgrades. I know it looks odd, but it is well worth it. You have a dedicated tach terminal, and single wire input lead, and and a single port for the vacuum advance. The coild is on top, and the only major parts to go bad, are the module inside. They are very very reliable, and very very simple to maintain.
i was told when i was looking at there electronic system for flatties they had quality control issues .......... dunno , but it was folks here warned me . i know a buddy of mine is running a davis hei in his built 351 w and he's as happy as a lark . geuss the truth of the matter is gm's are good for something .... parts !
The self contained version, currently available through Summit, Jegs, etc., is by far, the best one available. It is a Ford lower half, with a GM upper. So far, no reliability issues, and completely servicable. I agree, Chevies are good for a few things, just not many....lol
my buddy has had one on his vette for probably 30k miles without issue. pretty sure we put in a different spring kit though, if i remember right the msd springs fit fine

Do you know if the module is the same as the GM HEI module for replacement purposes?
