1986 cat

i have a 1986 f150 with 302 efi. it has two cats on it. are both of these cats? could i eliminate them both and put one high flow cat?

Maybe one is a cat and one is a resonator. 86 seems like it might be right in the smog pump window, could it be something with that? Could you shoot some pics.

My 83 has no cat. It doesnt have anything (yet) a piece of pipe attached to the collector and a flowmaster turned down.... Sad huh?

how far back is the turn down? is it past the cab? i have a supercab with a short bed.

On mine its right at the back of the cab. Its not the way I want it, but.... I like the turn downs when they are past the rear diff.

both would be cats,unless your cats are bad it might be illegal to remove them.but being 23 years old they are probably worn out.but i can't see why you could not replace them with a newer high flow cat.

Both are cats however you can replace them with one if you can pass emissions with one. However check with you state to see what your legal options are.
