it's not just a Ford thing, I've seen all brands with this problem. I think part of the problem is the driver. I drive truck for a living and I've noticed these days most people wait until they're almost at their stop or turn to hit the brakes, this creates alot of heat and dust. I've always started slowing down sooner, like I do in my semi and I get very little brake dust on my wheels. Even after 800-1000 miles of driving there is no visable discoloration to the wheels. If I do alot of towing or get lazy about slowing down sooner, then I start noticing brake dust on the wheels. I got my wife ion the habit of doing this also and she doesn't have any problems with dust either. Another plus is you can go alot longer on you pads, I can get 100K out of my stock pads easily.
