Hi Guys,
Ive noticed that on my 07 F-150XL there is ALOT of brake dust on the front rims.Ive also noticed quite a few F-150,s of this year range with the same issue.
The brakes of course look fine, and the pads are in excellent shape...any ideas here? im VERY picky about my ride, and this looks nasty.
only option, change pads.... been there and done it. Went with wagner, still has dust but it is grey and not as much so it does not show like the ugly brown the OEM pads do. Tons of posts on this

Thanks, Kinda figured it would be like that...Im sure these are organic, and being such, they dont last like the old school pads...Ill probably just wash her alot until the pads become worn enough to warrant replacing.Had a 97 that didnt do ANY dust.I think the guys that did the brake job put something like porcelain pads on it....
I've had great luck with Ceramic pads for low dust and low squeal in the past. The don't "bite" initially as well as the stockers do, but they don't fade under repeated braking like they the stock ones do either. And they last twice as long.
couldn't stand the brown dust from the stock pad's either. changed mine at 23000 miles on my 2007 2 months ago. went with wagner tq's. highly recommend them, little to no dust, and what is there is not brown. front wheels now look the same as the back.

I run the Wagners (semi metallic) on 2 of my vehicles and they are low dust.
ceramic pads my friend. I put some advance auto pads on my truck. Cleaned the rims b4 i put them back on and i have yet to see any dust. Make sure you scuff them up with a wire brush and use the purple brake grease. If u do u shouldnt have any squeaky
it's not just a Ford thing, I've seen all brands with this problem. I think part of the problem is the driver. I drive truck for a living and I've noticed these days most people wait until they're almost at their stop or turn to hit the brakes, this creates alot of heat and dust. I've always started slowing down sooner, like I do in my semi and I get very little brake dust on my wheels. Even after 800-1000 miles of driving there is no visable discoloration to the wheels. If I do alot of towing or get lazy about slowing down sooner, then I start noticing brake dust on the wheels. I got my wife ion the habit of doing this also and she doesn't have any problems with dust either. Another plus is you can go alot longer on you pads, I can get 100K out of my stock pads easily.
