Anyone else had this problem? When I turn on the ignition the headlights come on. The get brighter if I pulll the headlight switch and even brighter on high beam.Turn it the ignition off and they go off. I'm thinking there are three possibilities. Wire melted together somewhere, turn signal switch bad, or headlight switch bad. I doubt it's the headlight switch and leaning more towards the turn signal switch. Just wanted to check with the experts.
Also where can I get a new headlight ****? The metal has came loose from the plastic part and won't seat back in properly.
As far as I can see on the diagrams there is no correlation between headlights and the ignition switch, unless you have the DLR module (daylight running option required in Canada models trucks).
Is this something that just occurred recently or has always been a problem?
My guess is it's your daytime running light module. Had this problem on a van I had, except the running light were on all the time. Try to borrow one to test it. They aren't cheap. Not sure where it is on your truck, but probably on the firewall. Little black box.
This is a problem that just recently occurred. My concern is that it may be a sign of a more serious wiring problem. It never had the lights or parking lights on before.
Do you have keyless entry option? Just a thought because if you don't have the DRL nothing else ties into the (key on) ignition circuit for headlights.
My F350 was made for Canada in the USA and has the daytime running lights. On mine they do not turn on if the e-brake is set, and does not draw power that the glow plugs need for starting. I think daytime running lights are a good safety feature, so I would not want to change mine.
I've had the truck for two years and this just started. My concern is that a wire has gotten hot and melted causing a short. When I actually turn the lights on it gets brighter. Then high beam is even brighter. Like three differeny levels. Also it's not the just parking lights, but the actual headlights.
