We need a little more info here. Do they flash on Hi or low or both?

If the lights go out are you able to hit the flash to pass switch and does it work?

Do both left and right go out when they flash?

Does the Hi Beam indicator go out when the Hi beams blink?

Do the Hazard lights work?

There may be a recall on your headlight switch. I had it recalled on my 93 Aerostar.

Good luck

Headlight flashing can sometimes occur due to a bad DRL module (daytime running light module). It's the black box with fins on it attached to the wall beside your battery. 10 minute job to replace... but first diagnose the problem.

Hey, interesting possibility. I didn't think of that. Do any US Aerostars have DRL? It's not shown in my schematic. Sandramd, where are you located?

I'm in Canada so I'm not sure about US models. I think it became manditory in '89 or so for all vehicles to have DRL's. When my drl module acted up the lights would intermittently go on and off and when I turned off the van the lights stayed on sometimes - always the highbeams b/c the drl's are actually the highbeams running with a reduced voltage so they are dimmer. That's what the DRL module does. It does not, however, seem to explain signal light issues. JR

Yea, I don't see the connection either. In my book they have a different power source/fuse.

I've got a 94 and 96 Aerostar now and had a 91 before. None of them (all US) had the DRL. My 94 is an Eddy B. package and the lights will come on automaticaly and go off after a delay. That's a nice feature.

Light originally started flashin on running lights (ie off and on) they now progressed to when on high beam as well.

If you turn the light switch off they generally will come back on but not always!!.

I don't have a diagram that includes the DRL. I agree with aletheuo that it's probabily related to the DRL module.

With regards to the turn signals, I suggest you check your fuses first. Also check the position of the hazard switch. I have a problem on my 96. With the hazard switch off the turn signals work fine. With the hazard switch on I get neither the hazard nor the turn signal. Left or Right will not work if the hazard is on. I get nothing. We could have the same problem.

Yeah - that's the DRL. Pick one up from a later model f-150 or something from the boneyard. Should be about $15 or so.

headlight flicker

I stumbled accross this site after looking for a reason for the same problem you are having, flickering headlights. I read the post about drl so I am trying today unplugging the little black box. The lights seem to work normal. So what the hell leave it off until I get a part from the wrecker. The problem is solved right. I hope so. I have the same as you a 95 areostar. As for the signals. Could it be the flasher??? Because if you have to take the steering wheel off. I have had no luck with thaat. Cheep white metal junk the threads strip everytime I put on a wheel puller. I end up getting a whole column out of the wrecker. If the signals slowed down over a period of time and know dont work at all then I would say for sure its the flasher. Just some ideas.

later

I think your highbeams won't work without the drl module - better try it. There is a way to hot wire around it, not recommended though.

daytime running lights

I did do a high low flip of the switch a couple of times in the driveway. It did seem to work. I will do some testing tonight and see what happens. of course, this was after I disconnected the DRL box. So I will find out tonight and let everyone know tommorrow.

thanks
