unhook the lines, unbolt, remove. rehook the lines, bolt (be sure to put the new seal on), and youre done. should be next to the water pump on the drivers side of the motor.

Make sure you get the "arm" UNDER the eccentric on the camshaft or it won't work.

The engine needs to be on TDC so as to remove the pressure on the pump arm. Otherwise the pump will be very difficult to remove and install. Use a flare wrench to remove the output line.

Pull the distributor cap and make sure the rotor is pointing towards the wire for #1 cylinder.
If you want it exactly on TDC, after you do this check the timing marks on the crankshaft damper and make sure the 0 or TDC is lined up with the timing mark.
When changing the fuel pump the TDC isn't that critical, just so long as it's close. To do that just spin the motor over with the key.

THIS is exactly why I like this forum, you find out something that, after you hear it, makes perfect sense and seems obvious. But when I think of all the times I've "muscled" a pump into place and had to hold it against the block with one hand while trying to get the bolts started with the other.....

On a 400cid should the clear filter I've installed before the pump be full of fuel 100% of the time (at idle) or should it fill to ~80%, drain, fill to ~80% (in a cycle)?
It idle's mostly fine, can't open choke all the way anymore when warm though and it dies shortly after driving ~30ft. If it's not supposed to cycle like that is it time for a new pump?

Sorry for the possible hijack, seemed like the perfect place w/o making my own thread.
