My first nice newer truck was a BII. It was an 88 4x4. Bought it in '92. I had it for 5 years and never had an issue. And I know that I drove aggressively back then.
I believe the problem in part is people over compensate. They jerk the wheel one way then jerk it back and it is the second motion that causes you to loose control. You can roll anything.

The plastic trim surrounding the rear of the door can be opened pretty easily. Look at the screw locations for the trim panel. Get yourself one of those flex handle long reach magnets. If i remember correctly you need to separate the panel from the rear of the door opening. It will allow some clearance for you to get a magnet between the panel and the metal. Remove all the screws from the plastic trim so it can move, or the screws will pull thru the trim. Get the magnet below the point it fell. It will have to go over the RABS module that is located behind where the nut fell. You should be able to get it, That is how I caught mine.

Mine has been in my family since it was new 86.....once my mom sold it to me about 15 years ago.....the first thing I did was put a set of wheels on it that had a 3/4 of an inch more off set...made the width only 1.5 inches wider but drastically change the handling of it in a positive way...added stiff shocks on compression and soft up (larger tires not giant ones) ...it is wonderful ...the only thing IMO you need to worry is backing up on in incline...it will suck the front outside wheel under and can land on its side...again IMO
