After 5 years of ownership, my 2004 just started to act like it was possessed! Naturally, the warranty just ran out in May of this year. I have 68500 miles on it and it had the orginal flash since feb 04. I have resisted any re-flashes because I get really good mpg.
I had the recall 06e17 done yesterday, but I still have this same issue. seems to run better once it warms up. It has stalled several times. The truck is bone stock no mods. Can someone suggest what it might be?. I think I have an 03 engine with a 04 truck. Can someone tell me how to check build dates?
The local Ford dealer want $238.00 just to diagnose.....
Build date is on your FICM - Fuel Injection Control Mosule - (silver box on drivers side of engine).
Have you ever had your EGR valve out? It may need cleaning or replacing.
Personally, I would consider the re-flash and 5W40 synthetic oil. I have read the threads on lost power and lost fuel economy. To me, it always seemed the root cause could easily have been a "mis-applied" flash and not the flash itself. If you do lose mpg, then Innovative Diesel or Power Hungry Performance can re-program your FICM and restore the lost power.
I guess you could just send them your FICM and not even bother w/ the Ford re-flash.
